Key Learnings:Basics of Stock MarketFinancial MarketSecrets of Derivative
In this video, we will be discussing how to read a mutual fund quotation.
Whenever we want to know the details of how a stock is performing in the market, we look for its stock quotation.
Similarly, when we want to understand the performance of a mutual fund, we can take the help of a mutual fund quote.
A mutual fund quote, also known as its table or quotation, is an online resource containing all the details of the mutual fund, which can affect our investing decision.
Let us discuss the contents of a mutual fund quote.
Let us first discuss the overview of a mutual fund quote.
The first thing we can see is the category of the scheme and check whether the scheme is open-ended or closed.
This is essential because each category caters to different risk appetites and investment objectives.
We can also see other details of the scheme like the exit load and the expense ratio of the scheme.
Since this ratio is deducted from the NAV at the time of calculating our profits, it is an important factor to consider.
Next, we have the Net Asset Value or NAV. The NAV is the market value per unit of the fund.
Alongside the NAV, you can see the date on which it has updated and the percentage change in its value as well.
The NAV of a fund tells us how the fund has grown over the duration of its existence, but it is not a direct indication of the performance of the scheme.
To measure the performance of the scheme, you should look towards the scheme’s returns and details as well.
While you can look up the portfolio of the mutual fund in the scheme details, the scheme returns show you the average returns provided by the fund over different time periods, like one month, one year, two years, etc.
Next, let’s move to the dividend history section.
If you are looking to earn some income from your mutual fund investments, this factor is an important one to consider for you.
Next, we have the portfolio section of the quote.
Here, you can view the asset allocation of the fund. You can also assess the sectors that the fund is investing in, and the details of the companies the fund has invested the most in.
Next, let’s look at the Peers section.
Here, we can compare mutual funds of our choice to make an informed decision for our portfolio.
You can make comparisons as per different factors like their overview and their top holdings.
On this screen, you can add any funds of your choice and choose the criteria of your choice to compare the funds.
As we have seen, a mutual fund quote is a one-stop solution to all our queries about a mutual fund’s performance, and it can help us make informed investment decisions.
